It is Never Too Late to Become “Fit and Fabulous over Forty”

Fit and Fabulous over 40” is about staying healthy and fit in your forties and beyond.  Being in our forties doesn’t mean we have missed the boat on health and fitness,  quite the Opposite..it is our time to truly shine.

Often the reason many Women gain weight in their 40’s is “emotional eating”, not necessarily hormones, as once believed. For many of us women in our late forties, we experience the “Empty Nester Syndrome” and tend to change our eating habits to that of snacking.  We don’t log those calories and before you know it we have put on that extra weight.

But the good new is that for many women who have struggled in the 20’s and 30’s with there weight, can now find great success in their 40’s.  This is because generally our schedules become a little more flexible as our children grow.  We no longer have toddlers running around, the school schedules get less hectic and our workload more flexible. We are finally able to achieve the consistency we have never had before as the distractions subside. We also may find our mindset is finally ready to make the “Change to a healthier lifestyle”, so that we can start preventative measures of risks to diabetes other diseases.

After 40 we can lose weight and maintain it but, we need a plan! This is not a diet, however a lifestyle change.  Your plan must consist of physical activity(Aerobic) plus resistance training(Weights or resistance bands) to help improve your body tone.  Gaining Muscle and bone strength through weight lifting type exercises helps with the reduction of muscle and bone lose. Which effected the previous generation. Of course cleaning up your diet will help as well.

There is no time like the present to get started.  Here are a few pointers.  First change your mind set and believe you can do this! Secondly start gently and gradually to increase your activity level, the health benefits will be huge.  Our later years will be so much more fulfilling if we choose to exercise through them.  Thirdly replace your heavily processed foods with cleaner foods.  What are cleaner foods?  Fresh Veggies and fruits, lean proteins like chicken and fish and limited grains.  When you do eat grains choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, gluten free flours and unprocessed whole wheats.

I whole heartedly agree! I went 10 years when my children were very young and I was having babies with almost NO exercise! At 37 I began again and now at 48 I DO have a different outlook on 1. how important it is and 2. where and how to schedule it into my life! GREAT blog, Cheryl!
